Post: Demonstrations in Moscow

Posted by James Stevens on 3/29/99
Hi all,
I saw footage over the weekend of the masked gunman in
camouflage who aimed two missile launchers at the US Embassy
in Moscow during a pro-Serbian demonstration outside the
embassy.
The mayor of Moscow is reported to have said he was
"considering stopping the demonstrations, but he didn't
know, there were a lot of groups who wanted to demonstrate."
It's interesting that the right of free speech has come so
far in Russia that they are even willing to shed blood to
protect it. If this missile hadn't misfired it would likely
have had a profound effect on East-West relations.
In regards to Kosovo, are the Russian people being
manipulated with misinformation, is the US wrong about the
reported genocide, or are we just in a moral ice age?
Anyone have any observations or insights about the value
accorded free speech in Russia now?
