Check out this website: http://www.tobacco.neu.edu/Congress/McCain/McCain_and_First.ht m It has an in depth analysis of tobacco advertising and the first amendment. My mother who smoked for over 40 years died recently of cancer that was most certainly caused by her smoking. She tried everything to quit from hypnosis to special filters to the patches and gum. Unfortunately, the tobacco industry's effort to make her a life long addict were completely successful. I'm with you in spirit but don't know what the answer is. The country's experience with prohibition served only as an impetus to organized crime. I fear that outlawing cigarettes would result in a similar black market. I think the only way we're going to rid ourselves of the industry is to make sure that none of the investments we control including our 401k's and mutual funds invest any of our monies in the tobacco industries, outlaw smoking in all public places, and make it a crime for anyone under 18 to even possess cigarettes.
