True...Our country allows us to have the right of Freedom of
Speech as long as it is within standards and laws of our
country. The FTC has posted several "rules" which puts standards
on what advertisers are allowed and not allowed to do (i.e. 1.
Misrepresentation-a claim that is misleading when it a person
believes a false claim, 2. Reasonable consumer-when claims are
made that are false directed to a target market, 3. Material-
information that is likely to impact the consumers choice.)
Along with the government, i too strongly believe that when these
three ideas are broken, so too has the first admendment been
violated. Thus, FTC will take action and should. There is only
so far that advertisers should stretch infomation...when it has
gone too far, not only is this a legal issue but an ethical issue.
