Post: PROTECTIVE ORDERS UNDER UTAH LAW

Posted by JED L. KELSON, kelsonjm@aol.com, on 12/16/02
I was served with a Protective Order that stated: "The Respondent is prohibited from directly or indirectly contacting, harassing, telephoning, or otherwise communicating with the Petitioner." A month and a half later i left her a note asking the whereabouts of a word processor and safe. She sent back a note denying any knowledge. I left her another note stating she was lying because I hd found the contents of the safe but no safe. I was arrested for violating the Protective Order. Did I have a first amendment right to write her that private note?
