Post: firing of employee

I know someone who was fired from a long time of being employed with a major corporation that most definitely is a household name. This employee honestly forgot to do something, yet it was nothing that did any harm to any other employee. Other employees have committed similar infractions and are still in their positions. I thing possibly the clincher here is that this man sustained a work injury in 2001, had major surgery and went through a year of PT until he was able to go back to work. His work record has always been as his manager stated "unblemished" until this time of forgetting something. The company has not followed their own regulations in his appeal process as to how long it takes them to review this case nor did they follow a governmental regulation set forth for them. This employee is considering filing suit if he is not reinstated not only due to this possibly being over the disablity, but age and possibly race. Also, this corporation is in the midst of a downsizing which is not well known. They just asked many employees to retire early so they can boost their stock prices. Any info would be helpful at this point.
