Re: Restoring Rights to own/carry firearms
Posted by Paul T Ferris on 1/19/07

Your query suggests that you did in fact lose your right
under state law. Once you have spent three years in the
community without being convicted of ANY crime, you are
likely eligible to petition for restoration of your firearm
    rights.

Whether you lost your firearm rights under federal law
depends on the language of the law and the procedure. If
you did lose the right to possess firearms under federal
law, you have no remedy other than a governor's pardon. A
state court order restoring firearm rights only restores
    your right under state law.

Note that until a state court restores your right, you
cannot possess ANY firearm. If a state court restores your
right, but you are still prohibited under federal law, you
would limited to possessing only muzzleloaders.
