Re: Denied Illinois FOID card
Posted by - on 10/30/07

I know you want to get the guns back that were taken from you but
I was wondering if you are also prevented from purchasing another
    firearm if you wanted to.

To determine if you are prevented from acquiring a firearm, go to
a licensed gun shop and attempt to purchase a firearm (you don't
have to actually go through with the purchase). The dealer must
do an instant back ground check before selling you a gun. If it
comes back clean he will sell you a gun unless Illinois has
additional requirements to acquire a firearm.

If you are not allowed to purchase a firearm because of the
results of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System
("NICS") report, you may request the reason(s) for your denial by
    writing to:

    Federal Bureau of Investigation,
    NICS Operations Center,
    Research and Analysis,
    P.O. Box 4278,
    Clarksburg, West Virginia, 26302-4278.

To better understand your rights to obtain information about a
denial to acquire a firearm from a licensed dealer, you may want
to look at; 28 CFR Part 25.10, subsections 103(f) and (g) and all
of Section 104 of the permanent provision of the Brady Handgun
Violence Prevention Act of the Brady Law.
