    Well -- the FOID card did not infringe on the rights of the nut job that shot up the NIU Campus in DeKalb.

    "Subject only to the police power." I think what that phrase means is that the state may use their power to
    regulate firearms.

    Much like property rights -- the government may not take land away (without compensation) but they sure can and do
    use their police power (zoning regulations) to tell you how you can use it. Do you think your neighbor should be
    allowed to build a pig farm in his back yard if you live in a nice residential suburb?

    Those on this site interested in 2nd Amendment rights should be following the case of "District of Columbia v.
    Heller" (07-290). The Supreme Court will decide this term the actual meaning of the words of the 2nd Amendment. It
    is their opinion that the Constitution says counts when it is necessary to interpret the Constitution. Like it or
    not, their word will be the law of the land. You only have to wait a few more months for an answer to your question.
