DC v. Heller is a landmark decision by the Supreme Court but don't read more into
it than is there. FOID cards are not unconstitutional under Heller and the
decision makes it clear that the Court is not saying that states can not place
restrictions on gun ownership. DC had, in effect, a total ban on ownership by
ANYONE which included in your own home. Chicago has a similar law which may fall
but not the FOID registration requirements.

If you have a mental health history or a criminal record, don't go out to buy a
gun -- you aren't eligible. Also, if you live in CA don't expect to be able to buy
an assault rifle now. Heller will change only a few "total restriction" laws and
    very few others.
