I took the BarBri course for New York and New Jersey in 1992.
I took the MicroMash course for Connecticut in July 2005. I
passed all three exams on the first try.
BarBri is fine if you can go to daily lectures and spend the
next 6 to 8 weeks exclusively studying for the bar exam.
BarBri is all about the lectures and taking good notes to
review before you take the exam. MicroMash is much more
flexible, because there are no lectures and MBE portion is on
a computer program that adjusts over time to your strengths
and weaknesses. Micromash also provides you with a tutor who
grades your essays every week and gives you feedback. Both
courses focus on the MBE, because the essay portions usually
test more general law, than state specific law. Both courses
will tell you how much the states you are considering focus
on state law as opposed to general multistate law. I really
liked MicroMash, but I had no choice because I have to work
full time and couldn't go to daily lectures. My opinion is
that if you have the time and get a lot out of lectures and
note taking, then do BarBri. MicroMash, on the other hand, is
dozens and dozens of exam questions in every topic, and then
the program explains the answers and why you were right or
wrong. I hope this was helpful. --Joe.
