No matter what I did, I couldn't get it cleared. Hired an attorney and for $50 she wrote a letter to the company and sent a copy of the receipt and gave them 30 days to rectify the situation with the credit reporting agencies or else... Collections stopped and within 10 days, all was well again. It's worth a shot.
