Okay I've posted about this problem once before. 1500.00 credit
debt of my husband from when he was 18. Was owned by Associates
National who sold to Gulf State, when they owned it we didn't
have the $ to pay it. When we were better financial place Gulf
had sold it to someone who sold it to Schreiber and Associates
which showed on his credit. We tried for almost two years to
contact them. Left messages requesting proof of debt etc.
Finally we got a hold of them June '03 they said pay 2800.00
including the interest. We said not possible. They said pay
original 1500.00 by end of month and we'll call the debt
satisfied. So we paid it with a cashier's check on the June 23rd
2003 and it cleared with the Schreiber stamp on July 2003. About
November we started getting notices this was sold yet again for
the exact amount the check was for. We have called at least 6
times and requested Schreiber to send info to credit bureau and
us a receipt. We have contacted new creditor and asked them to
go back to schreiber and clear it up. Schreiber always agrees to
send receipt and we never see anything. Now one year later it is
still showing in credit history and trying to get a home loan
someone from Captial One - who refused to leave his name and was
insulting to our underwriter, called her and demanded we pay
debt. I need legal advice. This harrassment has got to stop -
not to mention we want this off of his credit report. What are
out rights and who do we contact?
