Actually, I also said that the roof was between 15 and 20
years old and that roofs last 20-30 years depending on the
grade of the shingle and ventilation in the attic. He had no
vents. I made a note of that.
As for not saying exactly when the roof would have to be
replaced, I am not a psychic. Shingles can be replaced
without replacing the whole roof. So actual replacement could
be delayed by several years.
The guy who put the new roof on said that the owner made no
mention of the roof leaking. In fact, he said the owner was
having the entire second floor remodeled and adding a bathroom
and he wanted a new roof put on before all that interior work
was done.
