    If you're looking for the philosophical aspects of the
    decision, you cannot do harm to a client. However, you are
    not required to represent someone you don't want to
    represent. My usual kiss-off line was, "I do not believe that
    I can continue to provide your case the attention it deserves."

    One other point that I should have included in my first post:
    Send them 2 letters explaining your withdrawal. The first
    should be bare-bones and discuss nothing about the client or
    his case. You attach a copy of this letter to the motion to
    withdraw. You can then send a second letter that rants as
    much as you feel is necessary.
