Re: BBB--what a joke
Posted by SC on 2/07/07

June, the BBB couldnt' care less. Oh, it's a good idea to file
complaints there, in hopes that if enough complaints build up the
BBB might eventually start telling consumers there is actually a
complaint history there. But how it works is this:

The BBB is operated by fees paid in businesses membership dues,
therefore, the businesses are their first priority, not consumers.

BBB's have a rating system and don't report every complaint. They
don't let consumers see the truth and make up their own minds.
Instead, the BBB filters the complaints and it alone decides when or
    if they'll report anything negative.

People calling a BBB before buying are commonly told BS, then teh
BBB backtracks if confronted, explaining their rating system and
denying they ever told you anything misleading. My advice: get it in
writing so they can't so easily deny what they said.

As far as the BBB actually doing anything to assist you once you
have a complaint, that's a joke, too. Most BBB's will accept any
response from the business, even a lie, as "resolution of the
complaint." You probalby won't even be notified or given a chance
    to rebut.

If your BBB has a mediation program, it may or may not be of any
use, but if you do go to mediation, get any offer/agreement to
settle the complaint in writing so you can hopefully enforce it.
Don't take their word for it that they'll resolve your complaint.
