Post: Legally deductin from rent

Posted by Cat on 8/10/07

I have a landlord that lives a distance away. We do all
the repairs ourselves and notify him of what we've done.
Recently we had a septic problem by which he took no
interest in helping to resolve. I had it repaired at a
reasonable rate by which we are responsible for the 1st
$100. The initial cost was $175.00 to clear the pipe
between the cleanout and the tank. That did not totally
resolve the issue. We had the tank pumped $275 - I should
be able to deduct the $75 and the $275 from my rent. Is
this a legal move on our part?
