Post: Photos

Posted by Eightpock on 12/21/06

I hired a photography company to take pictures of my son.
Years later, I went to get copies of this photo and was told
I couldn't cause I didnt own the copyrights to my son's
image. Below is a quote from a government site.

" In the case of works made for hire, the employer and not
the employee is considered to be the author. Section 101 of
the copyright law defines a “work made for hire” as:

    1. a work prepared by an employee within the scope of his
    or her employment"

I hired this company to produce a picture of my son.
According to the wording above, I own that copyright not the
    person who took it.

I told them how I wanted it done, I picked the props, NONE
of which this company owned the rights to, all this company
had to do was click and button and print. They were my
employee and I paid to produce these images. They are in all
aspects mine, yet I'm told I don't own the copyrights.. This
doesnt make any sense to me.

    Thanks

    Pock
