I can almost guarantee that you will not get any sort of plea bargain or diversion without an attorney. And if you had contacted one and gotten any decent advice the first thing you would have been told about is privileged communication and not talking about the case to anyone but your attorney. You have admitted to the crime right here on the internet with lord only knows how many people reading it! I'm surprised that none of the other attorneys (really, how many of you responding are attorneys?) have pointed that out. One thing I always tell clients is this: KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT. Never admit, never incriminate yourself and never give permission for your self or your car or anything else to be searched! You pretty much negate any defense if you do not follow these simple rules. now that you have admitted the crime, I agree that a little humility and remorse will go a long way toward lessening your punishment. shoplifting is stealing and stealing is a crime. it does hurt people, it hurts every one of us in the manner of higher prices to absorb the loss. you don't think Wally- world's going to eat the cost of that sweater do you? so suck it up, pay an attorney and promise the judge you'll never do it again, it was really stupid. A word of warning tho: any judge who's been on the bench long has a pretty good b.s. meter. don't say if if you don't mean it.
