I think that the guy actually broke the rules by being in the room alone with you. Typically, when I tell someone that I am not going to prosecute them, it means that I am not even going to file civil demand against them. As for any more law problems that could arise from the incident, there should be none. He probably shouldn't have released you on your own recognizance but I don't know california law and the release form probably excused them from any liability that could have arisen from doing so. You could probably write a letter of apology to mervyns and they would clear the trespass and let you back into the store.
