Re: caught shoplifting, no police, how much should i worry?
Posted by Aaron Thoms on 7/23/06

I think that the guy actually broke the rules by being in the
room alone with you. Typically, when I tell someone that I am
not going to prosecute them, it means that I am not even going
to file civil demand against them. As for any more law problems
that could arise from the incident, there should be none. He
probably shouldn't have released you on your own recognizance
but I don't know california law and the release form probably
excused them from any liability that could have arisen from
doing so. You could probably write a letter of apology to
mervyns and they would clear the trespass and let you back into
    the store.
