Post: help---10 year old utah bench warrant

Posted by karen on 7/12/06
I just moved back to utah, 9 years and 3 kids later, now divorced. I haven't even been in town for a week, and I got pulled over for my headligt being out. The officer was going to let me go, but after running my license, he said that I had a warrant out....after my mom pawned her wedding ring to get me out of jail, paying money to get my truck out of impound, and other fees I won't even get into, I just went to court and they were most likely going to impose at least another 500 dollars in fines....The problem is, I know that I brought in proof of getting my tailight fixed, proof of insurance, and proof of registration back in 1996 when the citation was issued....what can I do now? I don't have the paperwork anymore, I can't prove that I showed proof, I don't even remember what car I was driving at the time....I am really scared....I am not the type that you would ever expect to see in court, but I feel like the judge is looking at me like a hardened criminal that meant to break the law....Why didn't they forward the notice of bench warrant to my new address when I moved????? I would have taken care of it all again if I knew that there was a problem...what do I do???
