Post: shoplifting 3 years ago and now applying change status

    Posted by Jenny on 11/17/07

I got charged for shoplifing misdemeanor about 3 years ago
in CA. I got fined, took class, serving community service
and got fingerprint then the judge reduce the charge to
infractions. I aware of infractions which can not be
expungement in CA so there's no way to clear out my
criminal record. Now I am applying green card through my
husband an American citizen but I saw in the change status
form of I-485 asked "been arrested, charged, indicted.
fined or imprisoned for breaking or violating any law or
ordinance, excluding traffic violations?" and I understand
I need to answer yes but is that gonna affect the decision
not giving me the green card? If I answer no, what's gonna
happen? I am very scared now and I have never mentioned
about this incident to my spouse. Please give me the
advise what's gonna happen on my applying for green card?
Your help will be very appreciated.
