Post: Macy's Sales Associate

Hello, I'm a sales associate for Fine Jewelry at Macy's. I recently was waiting on a customer who had wanted to see several pieces out of 3 different cases. The very first case we were at I had accidently left that case door ajar approximately 1/2 inch and one of my co-workers noticed the door ajar and pushed it closed (I didn't know this until after this incident). During this time I was still with my customer but realized that 2 loss prevention persons along with one of my managers were in the department as well, discussing something. By the time I was finished with my customer, loss prevention and my manager had left the department. Soon after, I receieved a call from LP to count the cases because they believe they saw someone take pieces from one of the cases. My co-worker and I counted the cases and noticed that 5 tennis bracelets along with the display was gone (approximately $10,000). Needless to say, it was out of the very first case I was showing pieces out of for my customer. I called LP to let them know as well as my manager that we were missing the bracelets. LP, my manager, and co-worker talked about me showing the pieces out of that case and that it was left ajar. I was in tears because I must have accidently left that door ajar, I thought I was going to loose my job and I thought I may have to pay for the loss. After seeing how upset I was, LP said "ok, I won't let this go on any longer, we have the bracelets in the safe." Of course, I was so overwhelmed with this incident, I'm glad my shift was over at that time. I continue to try and wrap my head around how low of a trick that was played upon me by LP. My question is: is this a normal thing for Macy's LP to do to their own employees. I'm 46 years old and owned my own business for 12 years and have been in the retail workforce for 30 years. In all my life I have never been treated like this. I'm so upset and stressed by the fact of this matter that I'm considering quitting. Could you please tell me if this is a normal thing for LP? Is this a fair thing to do?
