Re: Driver Surcharge-Texas Transportation Code Ch.708
Posted by Mary on 11/17/04

This law is a crock of crap. Who is responsible for notifying
the driver that he/she is going to have an additional fine
levied against him for the next three years?
We, my husband & I, found out the hard way., by a letter
through the mail. We did take care of our financial
    responsibility... IN CASH !!!!
Recently a co-worker told me that her daughter is paying
$360 for the next three years. She received her letter ONE
    year after she was ticketed.
I work in a hospital & have never heard that this money is
being filtered back to fund ANYTHING in our trauma center.
This really needs to be brought to the public's attention.
And to think, we voted for these people in our government.
They apparently do not want us to know they are sticking it
to us again. My biggest complaint with this law is .. they ,
the DPS, say that your driver's license will be suspended if
you don't pay. That is not a big deal for some of these Bozos
who repeatedly get caught, ticketed, arrested & released.
They just drive w/o a license. It makes it hard for those of
us who do pay the fines,,, on time.
