Sounds like this is a minor misdemeanor charge at best. I
assume you received some notice to appear in court? If so,
follow the instructions, plead guilty, and accept the fine. I
doubt you will be sent to jail. And, you are right, it
probably does not make a difference that the officer did not
read you your rights.
Or, you could plead not guilty, have a trial, and maybe get
off. But, for such a minor charge it is probably not worth
expending the time and money it would take to fight the
charge. Sounds like you did the crime anyway.
