If the lawyer blows a court appearance and a default judgment is entered he will be in big trouble with the court and eventually you. Don't worry--part of the advantage of having a real lawyer is it is a sort of insurance. If he misses a court appearance and it costs you -- you will have a great malpractice claim for at least as much as it costs you and probably more.
