Post: Employer paying twice a month instead of weekly

Posted by Joseph on 3/22/07
I work as a punch press operator for a small industrial company in NY state. They end their pay period on a Thursday and pay 8 days later on the next friday - every other week. As I have always understood NYS labor law - they must pay me weekly and no later than 7 days after the end of the pay period. If this is correct? Are there any exemptions or grandfathered laws that would allow them to pay in this manner. I would not want to report the matter to the labor dept only to end up with egg on my face for being wrong. Can they also fire me for reporting a violation such as this? If I choose to report them, would it protect me to tell them I filed a report or should I just sit back and wait for the fireworks?
