Question about HIPPA violations. My husband has been on
short term and long term disability. The company providing
LTD benefits have been giving my husband extreme problems
for which we're writing back and forth disputing.

We requested a complete copy of his LTD file that the LTD
company has on his case to see what is going on and what
they have been doing. During my review, some of MY medical
information was in his LTD file. My medical information has
nothing to do with the insurance company, his employer or
his LTD case.

It looks like they did a background check on me or someone
did for which it is in his file.

I never authorized release of any information on myself.

The only common entity in this whole issues is my husband's
employer for which they do have my social security number
as I am on his medical plan.

I believe the LTD insurance company obtained this
information through my husband's employer.

The LTD plan was paid for soley by my husband through
payroll deductions.

The employer DID not contribute any premium monies for said
plan.

Please advise.. if this is a viable issue, how do I find
legal representation knowledgeable about HIPPA?
