Post: Were my rights violated?

I was hired as a legal assistant at a small firm. The first 90 days are probationary as a contract employee and then you become an employee after the probationary period is up. 1st - as a contracted employee, I should be able to come in on my own time to perform the jobs he gives me right?. But I realized he wanted me there 9-5 with no lunch breaks after this last week, when I would leave at 11:30 for a couple of hours for my PT appts after a week without checking in with him, he pulled me aside and asked why I was "disapearing for hours". He had been monitoring when I was coming and going and disputed the time I had on my invoice. I explained that I thought I was contract and could come and go and he said no, he needed someone there 9-5. (which is basically an employee!) Today he left town and I went to retrieve an e-mail from his computer per his request and he had left an e-mail up from his fiance that proceeded to give a day by day play by play of my schedule for this week. (EXAMPLE "it is 1:45 and she is still not here...she snuck out the door again...seems to be leaving everyday at 11:15, she must have some kind of appt...." etc.) then they proceeded to plot to have me followed to see where I was going!!! She followed me one day to see if I was really getting my tire fixed! My question is 1) is it legal for him to dictate to me as a contract employee my schedule and if not, if he terminates me if I don't comply to I have any recourse and 2)can he violate my privacy like that by having me followed?? If I was an employee I was say this is slander and defaming my character as he joked that I must be attending NA meetings daily. But since I am contract, I want to know if my rights have been violated and if so, what I should or can do about it. Thanks!
