Post: Military Leave

I'm an exempt employee who is also a member of the Guard. My employer gives a specific number of fully paid days for military leave (12). If my service days exceed that number, can they force me to use my paid time off? Or can I opt to take unpaid leave so that I'll have vacation time when I need it?
