Post: Illinois Restrictive Covenant

Posted by Teresa on 1/07/08
Just a quick question - I'm a new attorney in Illinois and
have been asked by my company to sign a restrictive
covenant. I don't work for a firm, but a company that
deals with legal services and our clients are generally
firms and company legal departments.
The covenant states that I agree to the appropriateness of
injunctive, specific performance, or other equitable
relief in any such action (in addition to money damages)
if I breach the non-compete clause.
I vaguely remember something in law school saying that ex-
employers can only recover money damages from an ex-
employee and that you can't prohibit someone from working
(violates public policy) and you can't make someone work
(slavery). Is this correct?
