Post: Personal Day Discipline

Posted by Joe on 2/04/08
We get 5 personal days each year that roll over at the beginning of the year. January 1st was a holiday and I had to work January 2nd to get paid for the holiday. I called in on the 3rd of January and stated that I wanted to use a personal day. Later that day, after the owner learned I wasn't at work - she had my boss call me and give me an unpaid day off as discipline for January 4th. I was told that she felt we'd all had enough time off over the holidays. I asked my boss if there was some change in policy and confirmed that I indeed had my 5 days to use and that I would get paid for my personal day. He didn't agree with her action of giving me a disciplinary day - but she is the owner and he does what she tells him. I work in NY. Was this legal? If not, do I have any recourse?
