Post: Bipolar and Working

Posted by weathermoon on 2/07/08
I am bipolar and have worked for 15 years at one factory and raised a bipolar daughter (with help from parents and friends). I am 48 years old and finally, after my last psychotic manic episode that did some damage to my brain and body, I am now on meds. My daughter is now on meds also...20 years old. While I have an understanding workplace, I am weary, and mostly unable to keep my house up after working. My finances aren't that great either. I have two questions... 1. If I have an "advocate" to help me with my finances, will that mean I have no control at all? 2. Can I apply for FMLA due to bipolar so that the days I am so weary I can miss work and rest and replenish my brain and body? I don't want disability yet because I am able to work...at least at my present job...but I do need rest some days. And, yes, I go to bed at 8 pm and get 7-9 hours sleep a day. Thank you
