Post: Direct reports without additional pay

Posted by JC on 8/26/08
I have been very successful in my job for the past 6 years
working for a large corporation in a rapidly growing
sector. We have been adding head count yearly, and the
first year this occurred I received additional pay for 2
added employees that were my direct reports. As the growth
has accelerated this year, my travel has increased as has
the head count. There are now a total of 5 direct reports,
with job openings for 3 more this year.
For my review period of 2007, based on the additional
direct reports, I have asked for additional pay (utilizing
the same formula from the previous year). However, it
seems that my supervisors are attempting to say the added
employees are not, in fact, my direct reports, and that
they report into the director above me since I am now
traveling so frequently.
I have been a part of each of these employees hiring,
training, orientation and reviews. What are my legal
rights to disputing this attempt?
Thank you, JC
