Re: Peanut and nut and may contain nut ban in public school

Our 13 year old son is allergic to peanuts. Believe me this is not something we want or asked for. His IGE test came back today at 68.0. Anything over 15 is considered very high. We have seen our son suffer in the emergency ward but he came out of it alive. The next time with this kind of reading he may not be so lucky. It leaves an odd feeling in your stomach knowing something as innocent as a peanut can kill your child. We have taught our children to show compassion and respect for others. Unfortunately others do not. One month ago our son came back to his locker to discover somebody had smeared peanut butter on it for "a joke". Peanut butter is sticky - it sticks to balls, desks, taps, doors - you name it - that's a big part of the problem. You don't even have to be intent on causing harm or creating a "joke". A peanut allergy is not a food intolerance where you might have a mild stomach ache - it can kill you. Therefore I would like to see peanuts banned at our son's school. Anything that has a "may contain" does not concern me. Were the tables reversed and another child had the allergy - I would go out of my way to accommodate that child. It's human nature to want to help.
