Post: defamation and libel within the union

My union president has felt threatened by my actions involved in his recall. In retaliation he sent an email to 10 union members who live in different parts of the country telling about an investigation of my work ethic. He added fraudulent allegations as well as breached confidentiality that is required between his position and the company. What type of action should I take? I was found not guilty of all accusations of the investigation, but the damage to my character and work ethic has already been done. What measures should I take? Thanks in advance
