Post: Dillard's wants only men to manage mens dept????

Posted by D on 6/24/08
I am an ASM for Dillards and about a year ago I was placed in another area after manageing the men's department with 2 years of increases because management said I "needed ready to wear in my experience with the company" in order to be promotable. a week later the position was filled be a man. I started to hear comments from associates about how VP of Merchandising for Dillard's Burt Squires wanted only men to manage the mens departments. Then, out of the blue, my mother tells me how a sales associate at a different store across town told her the story of Burt Squires and how he wanted men to run the mens departments. Funny thing is I never told my mom the stories I was hearing. I went from managing a 7 million$ yr business to a 3.8mil$ a yr business. Plus, when they transferred me with 4 months left into the year the area was down by 15%. They basically, and I am using a phrase that Burt often uses "eased me out". So my question to anyone out there is...is this sex descrimination? Is there anyone else at Dillard's out there that this happened to that would like to talk? Should I talk to a lawyer? Should I just forget about it and become barfoot and pregnant? any insite would be great!
