Post: Child visitation rights for the mentally ill

Posted by Dana Cooper, ddc101@kaplantel.net, on 7/24/02

I have a question.I have friend who is dx'd bipolor and
attends partial for the earlier part of the mornings.
He is now divorced and his ex refuses to honor the
stipulations of visitations for his two daughters.
He lives with his mother who is right minded and is
not threat.Occasionally he checks himself in to
get his medication leveled. Here is the question.
Can his ex-wife legally keep his children from him
because he is in doctors care due to this illiness?
and when it comes to child visitation can he lose his
rights because he is mentally ill.It seems unfair because
he is leveled off and not dangerous. His children are
    aged 12 and 14.
