Post: Lawyer has suspended his practice

    Posted by J on 5/18/02

My attorney has suspended his practice due to some illness.
I paid him a $500 retainer to take my case. When I got all
my paperwork back, I found no coorespondence between him and
the party attempting to terminate an agreement with me. His
mother (my lawyers mother) who is an attorney herself, told
me that all relevant papers would be with my stuff that was
returned. The termination notice came about three months
ago; back then he told me that he was sending a letter in
response to the termination. I feel that he has done
nothing. I have a feeling the illness is probably drug
related. He never returned my phone calls or nothing. The
only way that I could ever talk to him was if I made an
appointment. Is there anything that I could do. Especially
if the party that is terminating the agreement verifies that
he did not send them a letter.

    Thanks in advance.

    J
