I'm not a lawyer and this is not legal advice...I also had this same problem. Took me six months to get the lawyer officially off our case after he was fired by certified return reciept letter. It took being very persistent, that's for sure. Our state bar is a big disappointment and has let this lawyer go on practicing despite complaints of numerous ethical violations, some of them very serious. The complaints are not made available to the public. If you have any sort of settlement you might get, be sure this lawyer you're dealing with also has not, and cannot, file a lien on it.
