To find out if an attorney is active or not, most states have
a website, for instance: Washington State: www.wsba.org
Arizona: www.azbar.org On both of these websites you can look up attorneys by name,
and both contain comprehensive databases of all attorneys who
are licensed in that State. If you don't see the attorney
there, you may presume it is for a reason. It won't confirm that an attorney absent from such a database
has been disbarred, but it will tell you whether such person
is currently authorized to practice. Beyond that, simply call the bar association of the relevant
state. They will let you know.
