Post: Probate

I have been appointed as the executor of my fathers estate in California. I would like to buy two of his properties to continue his business. I have notified the other five heirs and have received oral permission to proceed with the sale. However, I am told by my lawyer that I can not proceed with the sale without allowing the public to bid onthe two properties prior to a court date at which my proposal will be heard by a judge. Because I am an heir is there any way around this?
