My$0.02: Most likely, he is the Executor or Administrator's (of the Estate's) lawyer -- not the "family's" lawyer. The lawyer's job is, among other things, to help the Executor or Administrator pay the bills of the estate, disburse funds according to the law and see that all beneficiaries receive what they are entitled to under the law and then close probate and do so timely. It is NOT his job to make sure you understand everything that goes on in probating the estate. It is NOT his job to answer YOUR every question. The Executor's lawyer is NOT YOUR lawyer. You are free to get your own attorney at your expense to ensure you receive all the law says you are entitled to. The probate lawyer does NOT have to have your signature on the waiver of accounting. The disbursements and/or accounting can be done with a court order. One beneficiary can NOT hold the accounting/final disbursement hostage. Probate families "turn nasty?" Oh, yeah. We can all see that's what's happened here. Again, I see nothing unethical about the lawyer's conduct. Yours is not an ethics question.
