The judge was giving you a break. He was giving a very strong suggestion to your attorney to try to settle the case- -that it would be in your best interests to do so. I was once in a pre-trial conference in front of my favorite judge. He looked at me and said, "I don't know how in hell you hope to win this case." Then he looked at opposing counsel and said, "But if he does, your clients are gonna be really pissed." He then threw us out of the courtroom and told us to go out in the hall and get the case settled. It was done in 15 minutes. You oughta thank the judge--not question the ethics.
