Post: Civil Suit

Posted by bleak destiny on 8/14/07

I recently served as a juror on a court case, which has
been settled and also in which I have been released.
In this case, the plaintifs were asking an exorbitant
amount ($100,000) for medical costs and also for pain and
suffering. We debated for several hours on this case and
in this debate the following question came up that I would
dearly love to be answered by someone who actually knows
    what they are talking about.
In this wreck, no one died, no one was even injured other
than a scrape on their forehead.
The other jurors said it didn't matter how much we gave
them because the defendant's insurance company would pay
for it, the money would not actually come out the the
defendant's pocket. I still found the amount we gave them
in the amount of $20,000 medical and back wages plus
another $13,000 for pain and suffering outragous.
So what I am trying to ask, is the money we awarded to the
plaintifs being paid by the defentant herself or her
    insurance company?
