hi- I want to ask a question about what I should do about a
situation I got myself into. A man answer an ad I had on
Match.com and told me he wanted me to go out. I went to his
law office in Pasadena and we went out for a while and then
hun g out there.I really liked him. When I left he said he
wanted to come ot where I was staying in Ventura that
weekend, During the week we e-mailed and talked on the
phone and I felt comfotable with him. He asked me for a
favor "could I lend him $425.00 until payday in a week, a
short term loan and he would write up a promisorry note and
bring it with him when I saw him.I sent t he check to his
office and noted it was for payroll and he cashed it during
workingn hours (they called from the bank) and then he
stood me up three days in a row and then a series of other
times after that. I asked for the note and he always said
he'd give it when he saw me. The due date for the total of
$500. I lent him was Aug. 28, 2001 and today is Nov.
17,2001.
I wrote him several nice e-mails and called and left
messages but did not hear from him. I decided to get tough
and told him to give it to me that weekend (3 weeks ago or
I would speak to his boss since all of this eminated from
his office).He said thAT WAS FRUAD AND i WOULD NEVER GET
AWAY WITH IT. I did not want him to know my new address, so
I had to give him a friend's po box that is hardly uised
and I checked it myself in the last three weeks. It should
have taken 2 days at the most to get here. I sent an e-mail
and told him, fri, was his last chance. I wanted it in my
hand in cash and I also wanted to see the promissory note.
He was very abusive to me and told me in an e-mail he knew
my friend (who owes the po box stole it and I was out of
luck). I wrote back and said I had the key and checked it
and how dare he accuse my friend. I also told him it was
his problem if the money was lost,n ot mine and I still
wanted it that night.He only answered to say he had sent in
Western Union weeks ago and thta was that and he had no
more responsibility. I told him I was going to have to talk
to his boss about doing crimal acts while at work, though
the firm, their e-mail system, phone and saying it wasd for
payroll. Ok Im stupid I learned my lesson, but can I go to
his boss or is there really nothing I can do?
