I had two children before I was married. One child's paternity has always been a question and the other child's has not. But my boyfriend at the time signed the birth certificates of both girls. But at the time I also recieved a piece of paper from the hospital stating that I, as the mother have full custody of my children unless the father takes me to court and is awarded rights, even though he signed the birth certificates. We later got married and were married for 3 months and realized we can not do this. So my question is: Once we got married, did that change the status on the legal custody? Do I still have full custody? Or is it now considered joint custody or what? I left him because of his inability to be a good father to his children. He was very inattentive and sometimes just down right mean to them. And was the same with me. So I would like to know if I have to be letting him take the children with him for visitations at this point, as I am concerned about their safety and well being. I am in no position to pay for a lawyer at this time.
