No hospital can grant legal custody of any child to anybody. Only a court can do that. If they are his children, as appears to be the case since he signed the birth certificates and neither of you have been to court to get a cutody order, you both have equal rights to custody of the children. The hospital's piece of paper means nothing when it comes to legal custody of the children. He has as much right to custody of his children as you do.
