"We do not wish to sue" is always code for "do I have a case."
Postors come here because they want to now what s/he/they can
**legally** do about a situation. Hence, the carefully chosen
words "our remedies" in the OP's post.

The post was written by the parent of a teen (who probably has her
very first job) and the parent hasn't grasped the concept that it's
the child's job -- and s/he needs to stay out of it unless something
that affects their child's health/safety arises. Who the store
manager hires is none of the parent's or teen's business. Period.
It's the store manager's butt if he has violated company policy.
