First off, grandparents "rights" are not yours "to give" in
the first place. The laws are established by the states and
are enforceable, so long as they pass constitutional muter.
If it's an ex-husband, depends on the laws in your state.
Since you chose not to post your state, just google: [your
state] + grandparents rights.
If he's an ex-boyfriend, depends on whether or not he
legally etablished his paternity. If there is no court
order establishing him as the legal father, his mother has
no rights whatsoever because any rights she may have are
derivative of his. And if he has no rights, she has no
rights. If there is a court order, then see above paragraph.
This is an evolving area of the law. Laws in most states
are still being passed and challenged in the courts.
Bottom line: Depends on the laws in your state.
