Post: Mom (Petitioner) Green Card Status Help

    Posted by Ben on 6/12/09

    Hi,
My mom who has a Green Card petitioned for a Green Card for
me when I was 22 and now 11 years later, I have already had
my biometrics done and had my interview. My sister is my
sponsor since my mom is retired. I have brothers and sisters
who are born citizens here also. My problem is the USCIS
requested my mom go to the U.S. Consulate since she is
currently out of the country to verify that she has not
abandoned her status since she is the petitioner and I am
the applicant. Now she has been out of the country for more
than 1 1/2 years which is beyond what she is supposed to to
maintain her status. There are extreme situations involved
here because she is taking care of my dad (who is in pretty
bad shape)-knees, back bowel stuff and altzeimers)as his
primary caregiver which is why she has not travelled back in
    a while.

My question is how does this affect my status since I have
until July 26th to have her verify her status and if so what
can I do to rectify this situation. I already sent USCIS
pictures of her with my dad to show why she was not there
with me at my interview and the picture also showed the
current date since she held up a newspaper with the date
visible. I also sent to the USCIS along with the picture
verification a letter from my dad's doctor specifying her
role by his side. Please help. I have little time and after
11 years of going back and forth and paying attorney fees
and application fees and changing status etc. it is
incredibly frustrating that such a thing could quash my
hopes for the Green card at so close and critical a stage.
